Organization Overview

The Gow School, located in South Wales, New York, is an independent coeducational boarding and day school serving students in grades 5 through 12 and postgraduate learners. Founded in 1926, the school is a recognized leader in educating students with language-based learning differences, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and auditory processing challenges.

Gow’s mission is to help students build the skills and confidence needed for academic and personal success. Central to this is its Reconstructive Language (RL) program, a multisensory, phonics-based approach integrated across the curriculum. With small class sizes and a low student-to-teacher ratio, students receive highly individualized instruction tailored to their needs.

Beyond academics, Gow offers a supportive and structured environment that promotes independence, self-advocacy, and personal growth through residential life, athletics, and the arts. Graduates leave well-prepared for college, equipped with stronger academic skills and the confidence to succeed.

What sets The Gow School apart is its pioneering role in dyslexia education and its unwavering dedication to individualized learning. As one of the first schools in the United States to focus specifically on language-based learning differences, Gow remains a leader in the field, offering a uniquely supportive and effective educational experience within a close-knit community.
